Vice Chairman (Senator McCaughn) explained the Senate substituted language that converts House Bill 1475 into a formal study committee charged with another year of study and a full report on tax-sale reforms. He said the panel would include three members plus one appointee each from the Secretary of State’s office, a chancellor clerk and a tax assessor and that the committee preferred a comprehensive study rather than piecemeal legislative changes.
"Before we go piecemealing anything on tax sales, we believe we can put one more year of study into it, get a full report," the Vice Chairman said. The committee adopted the strike-all and approved the motion to pass the bill as amended by voice vote; the measure will proceed as directed by the committee.
