Mister Pettit presented a proposal to align school nurse salaries with experience and certifications so that nurses receive the same recognition for prior experience as other classified employees; he said nurses have been one of the few classifications not adjusted to an experience‑based scale. "Below figures are is the estimated cost to have all current nurses on their current correct pay scale with experience as every other position allows in the district," Pettit said.
Board members asked for the number of nurses and how medication coverage is maintained when a nurse is out; staff said the district maintains about 80 substitute nurses plus a floating nurse and that they share nurses between schools when necessary. The board noted the proposed adjustment is consistent with prior classified staff changes and requested final cost detail.
