Board adds elective ‘‘Intro to U.S. History’’ to high‑school offerings

Dr. Whiteside (presenter) said the course was developed after principals requested additional preparation time for students who struggle in the standard U.S. history class. "The intro to U.S. History is a more comprehensive, foundational background knowledge course" that covers historical vocabulary and literacy skills across two semesters and aligns with the South Carolina College and Career Readiness standards, she said. The course is elective and will not carry an end‑of‑course (EOC) exam.
The presenter said teacher preparation and resource allocation are planned to allow implementation in the fall; a teacher (Mister Gregory) helped write the proposal and teachers across the county supported the proposal. Trustees praised the course and approved the application by unanimous voice vote.
