Board recognizes student and staff achievements with district awards

The board honored the district spelling bee winner Elena Porter, All-State student-athletes and multiple Crystal Apple award recipients, including Dr. Andre Dukes (administrator), Rebecca Turner (certified staff), Alicia Hollis (substitute) and Althea Coco Shippey (classified staff).
The Cherokee County School Board recognized student and staff accomplishments early in the March 16 meeting.
District spelling bee champion Elena Porter (Blackstar Middle School) and multiple All-State athletes from Gaffney High School were acknowledged. The board also presented Crystal Apple awards: the administrator award to Dr. Andre Dukes (assistant superintendent of academics), certified staff award to Rebecca Turner, substitute award to Alicia Hollis and classified staff award to Althea Coco Shippey.
Dr. Dukes received the administrator recognition for establishing a student-focused vision and instructional supports. The presenter described Ms. Turner’s and Ms. Hollis’s contributions in detail and noted Ms. Coco Shippey’s service keeping Northwest Elementary School in order. Trustees offered congratulations and applause.
