Superintendent Robert Fitzpatrick introduced a draft procedure intended to prevent students from being penalized when curricular and extracurricular events conflict.
"Students should be able to participate in curricular or extracurricular activities, even if they conflict periodically with time," Fitzpatrick said, explaining that coaches, directors and principals should work together so students are not penalized. The draft will be circulated to principals for feedback and then forwarded to the policy committee for refinement into formal policy.
Board members asked whether the proposal replaces an older policy; Fitzpatrick said the committee would review and update existing policy language. No policy vote was taken during the meeting.
