Gaffney committee thanks board; community center plan aims to rely on grants not taxes

Kelly Curtis, speaking both for the City of Gaffney and the community center committee, updated the board on progress toward converting Mary Bramlett into a community center.
Curtis said she and committee members recently toured the property with city-council members and that council members left the tour enthusiastic about the site's potential. "The possibilities that's gonna come for Cherokee County… our children, our seniors, and everyone in between," she said, and added the committee is working to fund the center through grants so it will not increase the tax burden on county residents. Curtis said the city council is expected to consider a related vote in early June and that the group intends to continue coordinating with Cherokee County officials.
The board thanked the committee for the update and had no additional questions at that time.
