Dighton nurse reports multiple infectious cases; schedules blood drive and flu outreach

At the July 21 meeting the town nurse, Becca, summarized recent communicable-disease work and upcoming public-health events. She reported two Vibrio cases (one currently open and a minor), one Campylobacter, one Norovirus, two Varicella cases, one babesiosis case, and a dozen Lyme-disease notifications; a Shigella case from two months prior has been closed after contact tracing and provider coordination.
Becca said HIPAA limits some publicly available details but added she is monitoring a minor Vibrio case and is continuing contact investigation. She also outlined outreach plans: a blood drive scheduled for Aug. 15 (low preregistration at the time), a proposed October 21 flu clinic potentially tied to the farmers market or a health fair, and efforts to schedule a Dana-Farber mammogram van for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. "Last year we had a lot of walk-ins," Becca said of the blood drive; she asked board members and the Council on Aging to promote signups.
Board members encouraged monthly written reports from Becca so the board can explain the nurse’s activities to residents; Becca agreed to provide a short narrative in the body of an email for future meetings.
