As a Selectman put it during debate, "I move that we list in the posting for principal assessor's salary range of 70 to $85,000." The chair and other members said the board should remain flexible on final salary within the range to attract qualified candidates.
Members reviewed benchmarking data from nearby towns when discussing hours and pay; the discussion considered 35- versus 40-hour workweeks and whether to prorate salaries to be competitive. Staff also recommended listing familiarity with the town's permit-link software and some experience with TIF/pilot agreements as desirable skills. The board then moved and approved the job posting and job description for publication.
Next steps: staff will forward the approved posting to the select board for posting and begin accepting applications under the agreed terms.
