Council discusses speeding, possible painted speed markings and rise of e-bikes

Mayor Randall Sasser and the police department told the council that speeding in town remains a concern and that conventional speed bumps are not a feasible traffic-calming measure because of truck traffic. "We need to get people to slow down," Sasser said, and he suggested painting a yellow strip on the road with the speed limit as a nonphysical calming measure. He also reminded the council that the speed limit is always 20 mph on Williams even when school is out of session.
Chief Cournyer reported the department is in a busy season across both towns and said the addition of a new officer on patrol should allow for a larger enforcement presence to address local speeding complaints. The council also discussed concerns about electric bikes and scooters; Chief Cole noted that Morton has a city ordinance regulating bike use in its business area and suggested Mossyrock review that example.
