Orem greenhouse readied for programs as library and parks staff unveil schedule and partnerships

The presentation team said the greenhouse's first official program is scheduled for Saturday and that they added a second phase to create more space for the "dirty portion of gardening." They described a partnership with the Central Utah Water Conservancy District for a series of water-wise and landscaping classes that were "completely filled," demonstrating strong community interest. Laura was recognized for her "incredible craftsmanship" in horticultural design at several city planting sites.
Programming Librarian Meghan Flinders-Peay said the greenhouse work is a natural extension of library programming and that the library is preparing PSA videos and a staff survey to collect resident input on how the space should be used. Presenters suggested NRAC could host or participate in greenhouse events and asked that contacts for potential classes be routed to Meg and Laura to ensure proper scheduling and marketing lead time.
Planned public programs connected to the greenhouse include a plant swap on June 23 at 7 PM in the courtyard and a flower-pressing class in September. The team also intends to explore practice beds so residents can "get their hands dirty" in hands-on gardening sessions.
The commission expressed support for continued collaboration between Parks, the Library, and NRAC on programming, outreach, and use of the greenhouse space.
