Blake Leonelli, Government Affairs for Waste Management (WM), presented to the Orem Natural Resources Advisory Commission on March 5, 2026, outlining WM’s outreach and material‑processing work for Orem. Leonelli described WM’s long‑term goal of zero waste, praised Orem’s past recycling efforts (including a ‘top 10 in the bin’ campaign) and invited commission members to tour WM’s Materials Recovery Facility to observe operations firsthand.
Commission members asked specifically about hard‑plastic recycling, the market for end buyers of recycled commodities, and glass processing. Leonelli said WM’s local MRF is currently not configured to accept/process glass; he noted that glass recycling in Utah is handled by Momentum Recycling and pointed out that Orem provides a public glass drop‑off bin at the Public Works parking lot, 1450 W 550 N. Leonelli framed a facility tour and educational outreach as ways to improve local participation and materials quality.
