Council hears plan for transportation safety study, survey to residents

Council Member M. Nelkie told the Jefferson City Council she has been coordinating with Jesse Poore, AICP, Transportation Planner at Felsburg, Holt & Ullevig on a transportation safety study focused on vehicle crashes, pedestrian safety and traffic controls. Nelkie said the study will examine crash data, any fatalities, crosswalks, signage, sidewalks and speeding and is expected to conclude by June 1, 2026.
Finance Officer Michaeleen Roark said she will include information about the online survey in the city's annual letter to residents, and Nelkie will provide an explanatory letter for distribution. Nelkie and council members emphasized that strong resident participation in the survey could improve the city's prospects for road-safety grant funding; no formal grant application was voted on at the meeting.
