Resident urges council to lower speed limit near Rainbow Charter Park after repeated speeding

During public comment, Rich, a resident of Rainbow Charter Park, told council he and the park manager have been working with code enforcement but that speeding persists on a dirt section of West 12th Avenue adjacent to the park. He asked whether the city could lower the speed limit to 5 miles per hour and requested more police enforcement and clarity on property ownership for the dirt roadway.
"Can we reduce the speed limit to 5 mile an hour because of the elderly people and the kids in the park? Because they're speeding down there," Rich said. Council members acknowledged the concern and asked staff and police to collaborate with residents on traffic-mitigation options and to bring a game plan for potential speed-limit changes and enforcement to a study session or future meeting. Staff said they will determine ownership of the roadway and explore paving and grant opportunities for safer streets.
