Chief Michael Miller of the Colleyville Police Department walked through the district's "Secure" protocol, which the department uses when a potential threat exists off campus.
"Secure is signaled by an announcement of get inside, lock outside doors, and is the protocol used to safeguard people within the building," Miller said. He emphasized that during a secure, campuses conduct business as usual, visitors are not allowed, and emergency professionals manage the off-campus situation until it is safe to lift the secure.
Sergeant Dara Nelson explained the separate "Hold" protocol, which keeps hallways clear to allow medical or emergency teams to respond. "Hold is signaled by an announcement of hold in your classroom, clear the halls," Nelson said, adding that a hold gives first responders "clear, more efficient opportunities to render aid."
