Cassandra Quizno, one of four applicants interviewed by the Airway Heights City Council on April 21, said she would prioritize communication, accessibility and neighborhood safety if appointed. "My kids walk down the street... I absolutely love everything about Airway Heights," Quizno told the council during her opening remarks, and described running a Girl Scout troop as part of her community involvement.
Quizno said one pressing issue is that some residents lack awareness of meetings and decisions because information is shared online while other residents rely on flyers or landline notifications. She suggested the city make meetings more accessible and reach people where they are so "those people can know, hey. I have an opportunity to have my voice heard too." Council members pressed her on priorities including sidewalk and road safety; Quizno said she has raised specific ideas such as a sidewalk between Russell and Garfield and encouraged staff to look for safer pedestrian connections, especially for residents with disabilities.
The council allotted 15 minutes per applicant; Quizno used her time to describe local concerns she has experienced firsthand and said she would emphasize transparency. The council plans to deliberate and select two finalists at its May 5 meeting.
