Council and residents offered multiple public tributes to Mayor Brian Sabo at the North Bonneville City Council meeting on Dec. 23, his final regular meeting before a scheduled transition to the mayor-elect. Janette Tucker opened public comment by thanking the mayor for his "open door policy" and years of service. Emily Sabo said she was "proud of the work her Father has done as the Mayor."
Mayor Sabo said he will be available to the incoming mayor (referred to in the meeting as "JB") during a transition and that the new mayor will be added to the city checking account. He framed the work of city government as collective, saying the "City runs as a team and it makes it much easier to get the job done if you surround yourself with good, smart people."
Councilors also offered reflections. Councilmember Taurus Baxter recognized Sabo's mentorship and thanked him, adding, "You bring the people’s voice through you." Councilmember Joshua Good wished the community a Merry Christmas and said, "we’ll see you in the New Year." Councilmember Travis Randall said serving on council had been "an honor and privilege."
The meeting mixed the mayoral tributes with routine business: consent items and votes on budget and contract matters (reported elsewhere on the agenda). The council also publicly thanked staff who responded to a recent storm, acknowledging a broad team effort in recovery work. The council adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
