Mayor H. Troy Ethington reported several local projects and events at the June 18 meeting. He said improvements have been made to Stargazer Plaza, and that a public safety meeting was held regarding the Main Street bridge project and a closure that will begin July 6, 2026. He added that Entertainment Destination Center signage has been approved and is being printed, and that the city will need to redo the permit and ordinance process for the EDC because the deadline has passed. The mayor said a workshop with council and Building and Code Enforcement employees will be scheduled and that the refurbished fire truck is on its way back to the city. He also noted a Juneteenth celebration in Martinsville scheduled for Friday between 4–7 p.m.
Councilmembers added brief reports: Councilmember Frank Page said the outdoor pool at the park should open that week after resolving unforeseen issues and praised police collaboration with Norris Beckley on a kids’ summer program. Councilmember Georgina Ivers promoted a Men’s Health Fair on June 20. Councilmember Pam Carter praised downtown flags and noted Parks Department survey work.
