A dispute over mailboxes on Watson (Madill) Street was raised by resident Tammy Hunsaker, who said a contract related to placing mailboxes had been delivered to a neighbor by one of the mailbox owners and that the Town had only helped locate a property for placement. Hunsaker told the board she felt targeted by President Casey McNulty.
Trustee Matthew Fullilove reported he contacted Bruce at the South Dakota Department of Transportation, who confirmed the mailboxes are in the right-of-way. Fullilove moved "to keep the mailboxes in place" and said President McNulty had a conflict of interest because she owns the property seeking removal. No trustee seconded the motion and it therefore died. Town Attorney Mitch Johnson advised that the town does not own the right-of-way and that a property owner who wants mailboxes removed would need to pursue legal action; Attorney Johnson also offered to accept a letter from Hunsaker.
The record shows the board did not adopt any formal action removing or relocating the mailboxes; the matter was recorded as a private property/right-of-way dispute rather than a town-controlled action.
