Kingsbury County adopts rangeland fire assistance resolution, names rural fire coordinator

Echo Steffensen, County Auditor, presented and read the resolution aloud, saying, "BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that the list of individuals set forth below, are hereby authorized to request rangeland fire assistance, on behalf of the County of Kingsbury as specified in SDCL 41-20A-11." The resolution names Emergency Manager Kristen Longville and Sheriff Steve Strande as authorized contacts and appoints Steffensen as County Rural Fire Coordinator. The resolution sets an effective date of May 20, 2026.
The Board approved the resolution on a motion by Commissioner Corey Lundquist, seconded by Commissioner Troy Nelson. The roll-call vote was recorded as Lee aye, Spilde aye, Walls aye, Lundquist aye. The resolution requires no immediate expenditure and clarifies that the County Rural Fire Coordinator will act as the countypoint of contact for burn bans, billings and rangeland fire agreement administration.
