Traffic and parking were recurring themes during the July 8 hearing on the Bonanza Park MPD. Multiple residents told the commission that the Kearns/Bonanza intersection is already congested and called for more thorough TIS work and evacuation‑route analysis.
"Bonanza Drive is always a bottleneck for traffic...we need an adequate evacuation route that we will not have the types of bottleneck that is going on presently," resident Patricia Kipp told the commission, asking staff and the applicant to consider how increased daily trips would affect emergency egress. For its part, the applicant described on‑site mitigation strategies including bike sharing, dedicated bike parking, reduced curb cuts and a proposed dedicated transit lane on Bonanza, and said they would refine the draft TIS. Staff and applicant agreed that an updated TIS and a site‑specific transportation demand management plan will be included as exhibits for the Aug. 12 meeting so the commission can evaluate projected trip generation and the distribution of tenant vs. visitor parking.
