Board approves Shawnee County weed-control contract and accepts new culvert pricing

Road Department representative Bob Oliva presented the road report and related contracts during the Nov. 2 meeting. The board recorded receipt of a $3,828.00 invoice from the Shawnee County Weed Department for 2021 noxious-weed control under contract #C11-2021, which covered spraying 132 miles. Oliva presented the 2022 contract for review and the board approved entering the contract for 2022.
Oliva also reported new pricing for culvert installation, the first increase since 2008, attributed to higher metal culvert-tube costs. Member Karl McNorton moved to accept the new pricing and the board approved the change 3-0. The minutes note the new pricing covers materials costs but will not generate additional revenue for the department.
Why it matters: the weed-control contract and culvert pricing affect road-maintenance costs and operations for the coming year and should be included in next year's maintenance budget planning.
