Township approves disposal of 2006 Case backhoe; Foley Equipment to broker consignment

Co‑Road Superintendent John Tipton told the Board the township proposes to dispose of a 2006 Case 590M backhoe with roughly 4,135 hours, and recommended using Foley Equipment broker services to achieve a net of about $40,000 for the township.
Clerk Mike Mathes moved to approve disposal of the machine through Foley Equipment brokering services; Trustee Karl McNorton seconded the motion and it carried 3‑0. The packet included a Foley Equipment consignment agreement that lists an agreed asking price of $55,000, a minimum sale price of $45,000, a desired net to owner of $40,000 and a consignment charge equal to 10% of the sale price. The agreement states equipment will remain at the Soldier Township shop and that the customer (the township) is responsible for shipping and related risks until a buyer’s payment clears.
Township staff said proceeds from the sale are intended to be applied to purchase a skid steer loader that the road department expects will be more efficient for day‑to‑day needs. The Board approved beginning the consignment process; no sale was recorded at the meeting.
