Council member Leah asked for clear materials in the event the council considers a mill-levy increase; Laura agreed and said staff will prepare FAQs and fact sheets ahead of the scheduled community dialogue on August 20. Laura said the community dialogue is intended to be the primary public engagement event before final budget votes and that those materials typically are made available in advance of the final council vote.
Laura also asked the council whether they wanted a separate retreat (she suggested Wednesday, August 27) to discuss priorities in a less formal setting; Ben indicated interest in further conversation but did not press for a retreat if no new information emerges. Laura reminded the council that final recommended budgets would return to finance committee in September and that the required public hearing (and possible council action on budgets and intent to exceed revenue neutral) is set for the September 17 council meeting.
Staff committed to preparing outreach materials and fact sheets and returning with final recommendations on the schedule set out in the meeting packet.
