CDD hears proposal for storm‑surge resilience panel after topographic analysis showed wide flooding risk

Eric Long, PSGRC General Manager, briefed the River Ridge CDD on an action plan to improve community resilience to storm surge and climate impacts. Long said Pelican Sound is developing objectives for the next five to ten years and proposed creating an advisory/review panel to guide resilience planning and potential multi‑agency partnerships.
Long described a hypothetical analysis — using a topographic map for a modeled Hurricane Milton scenario — indicating a 10‑ to 12‑foot storm surge could have inundated 45% to 55% of the community. He told the Board that addressing such risks will take time, possibly a decade, and will require coordination among state, county and village authorities and potential partnerships with neighboring jurisdictions such as West Bay.
The Board agreed to support the effort in principle and designated Mr. Long and newly appointed Supervisor Keith Merrill to assist the CDD in coordination; Mr. Krebs was authorized to help as necessary. No specific funding or formal contract was approved at the meeting.
