Monroe Township mayor spotlights year-round emergency management work

Mayor Steven Delina used the Mayor Delina show recorded in the township Emergency Operations Center to explain the role of the Monroe Township Office of Emergency Management and to introduce the team that leads it. "We have an incredibly dedicated team working year round to help our community prepare for those emergencies before they happen and then certainly respond to when they do," Delina said. He introduced Chief Griffin Banos, Lieutenant Sergei Jangles and communications coordinator Heather Howell as the staff the township relies on.
Chief Griffin Banos described OEM’s core work as planning, mitigation, training and interagency coordination rather than simply responding after disasters. "Communicates," Banos said when asked what OEM does best, elaborating that strong relationships among fire, DPW, MUA, police and county partners let the township act quickly when incidents occur. The officials said OEM also designs operational plans for large events and routinely coordinates across departments to protect retirement communities, schools and other high-risk facilities.
