Board approves rebid Jefferson capital grant project; must finish by year-end

The board approved the Jefferson Capital Grant Project on July 20 after administration reported the original scope exceeded budget and the project was rebid with a reduced scope to fit available grant funds.
"This is for the Jefferson bid, part of the capital projects grant that we received from the state," Superintendent Venty said, explaining the recommendation came from ISG and that bids returned within budget for a reduced-scope welcome center. He added that storm-shelter requirements increase the cost of any new construction under current state rules, which influenced the decision to limit the scope.
Board members asked whether CJC Construction — the low bidder — had been vetted; administrators confirmed ISG conducted a bid verification process and that staff expected the project to be finished by Dec. 31 as required by the grant. The motion to approve the project passed 6-0.
