Park Rapids approved a temporary services contract to ensure continuity of commercial building inspections while the city's new Building Official completes licensing requirements.
City Administrator Angel Weasner explained that the newly hired Building Official is not yet licensed to sign off on certain commercial projects while he studies for the full Building Official exam. Weasner said Andy Sharpe of Township and Range LLC, based near Duluth, will assist and plans to come every other Tuesday to help with inspections and to work closely with the city's Building Official, Karl. The council unanimously approved Resolution #2025-71 to authorize the temporary contract.
The contract is intended as an interim measure only; the city expects the local Building Official to assume full commercial inspection duties after passing the exam. The city did not provide the contract dollar amount during the meeting minutes and will present contract details to the council as required by procurement rules.
