Council schedules South Greenville bond hearing; Simpsonville millage and bond measures advance

Greenville County Council adopted a resolution calling for a public hearing on issuance of up to $1,000,000 in general obligation bonds for the South Greenville Area Fire District and approved Simpsonville Fire Service Area measures on second reading.

Councilor Collins moved the resolution calling a public hearing on up to $1,000,000 in general obligation bonds for the South Greenville Area Fire District; the motion carried by voice vote. Later in the meeting the council approved at second reading both a proposed increase in the Simpsonville Fire Service Area operating millage and a second-reading ordinance authorizing up to $1,200,000 in general-obligation bonds for Simpsonville projects.

During public comment several residents urged caution about additional taxes, citing fire-district surpluses and the impact on elderly residents. Harrison Musselwhite told council, “No more new taxes in Greenville,” asking districts to use reserve funds rather than raising millage. Council members noted the hearings are part of the public process and that further scrutiny and disclosures occur during the public-hearing phase.

These bond- and millage-related actions advance to their public hearings and required subsequent readings.
