Pullman planning commission discusses aligning its goals with City Council priorities

The City of Pullman Planning Commission used its regular July meeting to discuss setting two-year goals that explicitly align with City Council priorities adopted June 16. A staff member told commissioners that "on June 16, city council adopted its goals and priorities for its July 2026 to June 2028," and reminded members the chair's annual report is due Aug. 14 and will go to council on Aug. 25.
Commissioners agreed the commission should produce goals that map to council priorities rather than work at cross-purposes. Members identified finishing the comprehensive plan update as a leading objective and discussed packaging other priorities (parking, public engagement, and continuing education) as supporting elements. Staff said some metrics already appear in the department's annual report, while commissioners proposed adding easily tracked measures, such as counts of applications reviewed, types of land-use changes, and the occurrence of site visits or trainings.
The commission did not formalize a final goals document at the meeting but directed staff to include a draft in the annual report and to clarify the reporting period. Staff said the current annual report covers calendar year 2025; commissioners debated whether an August submission that reviews 2025 is the most useful cadence for a report intended to support two-year goals.
