Students report on 'shadow' day: ‘Overall, 10 out of 10 experience,’ says Oak Harbor senior

The board heard brief student reports from two Oak Harbor High School students who participated in a district "student vision" shadow day. Caleb Manion, a senior, told the board he shadowed teachers across AP Calculus, Physics, AP Literature and AP Spanish, praised specific teachers and said the experience helped him learn: "Overall, 10 out of 10 experience."
Emma Ritter described her day including science, AVID (where a guest speaker, Cameron Kinley, a former football player now in the U.S. Navy, spoke), algebra and lunchtime interactions. Both students reflected that the day gave adults perspective on classroom routines and staff-student interactions and that the district plans to incorporate student voice in strategic-plan accountability.
