The Tunbridge Selectboard voted Jan. 28 to reactivate the town’s Fuel Assistance Committee and appointed six community members to oversee a $7,000 cash fund intended to help residents with fuel needs.
Road foreman Rodney Hoyt told the board the committee has restarted “at the request of the Selectboard” and that the fund currently holds $7,000. Hoyt said committee members are considering whether aid from the fund should be distributed as loans or grants and that the group will review the existing application process to determine whether it remains appropriate. He noted the fund’s last documented use was in 2017–2018.
John O’Brien moved to appoint Helen O’Donnell, Anne Mallary, Ben Wolfe, Betsy Sponable, Rebecca Hoyt and Shari Murawski to the committee; Mike McPhetres seconded and the board voted, recorded in the minutes as “All aye,” to approve the appointments. The committee’s next meeting was scheduled for Feb. 11, 2025, at 12:30 p.m.
The committee is still recruiting additional volunteers, and members told the Selectboard they had previously declined donations because there was no recent demand; the board did not change the fund’s amount at the Jan. 28 meeting.
The Fuel Assistance Committee will review eligibility and distribution procedures before issuing aid or accepting donations.
