Resident urges Stone Harbor to maintain 112th Street beach access; officials point to developer agreement

Ernest and Katherine Whitbeck, calling in from 115 112th Street, urged the Stone Harbor Mayor and Council on Oct. 7 not to “abandon” the borough’s beach access at 112th Street, saying tax records show the Borough owns the property and should maintain it. The Whitbecks also asked for a street sign at the location and confirmed the council had received tax maps.
Business Administrator Joe Clark responded that "deliveries are now happening" at the site and that questions about dune access are governed by the Developers Agreement with IHM, adding that "the developer would need to agree for the process to be expedited." Mayor Timothy J. Carney told the Whitbecks that staff would look into the matter and report back on the status of the developer agreement and any needed municipal action. The exchange took place during the public-comment portion of the meeting, which was held in person and via Zoom.
