Turning Point seeks to expand peer‑recovery outreach in rural Jamaica

Matthew Barlow, rural outreach coordinator for Turning Point (based in Brattleboro), told the Select Board that his organization provides peer‑supported addiction recovery services and is working to expand access into rural corners of Windham County, including Jamaica.
"I'm the rural outreach coordinator of Turning Point in Windham County," Barlow said. He described work building networks with law enforcement, fire and EMS, clergy and nonprofits, and said Turning Point offers confidential peer support, referral to treatment services, and coaching; basic services such as meetings and a peer coach are free and the nonprofit has grants to cover some services.
Barlow said he is exploring a regular outreach presence in the western part of the county — one day per week in Wilmington and another in Putney, with the goal of adding town‑level access between Londonderry and the Jamaica area if funding permits. He offered to leave contact cards and a digital flyer for the town website and to return with printed materials for distribution at the town office and park.
Board members welcomed the outreach and agreed the town will post a flyer on the website and print copies in black and white for community distribution. Staff and board members asked Barlow to follow up with a digital file so they can publish contact information and the board discussed potential town support for outreach coordination.
