Commission asks township staff to press PennDOT after identifying gaps in crash data and asks expanded scoping

Several commissioners and residents questioned the traffic study that accompanied the Living God subdivision application, saying known local crashes and evolving adjacent development were not reflected in the study area. Commissioners said the scoping should include intersections at Cambridge, Cupola and Rockland Station and recommended the township be included in PennDOT scoping meetings so the traffic consultant accounts for nearby projects.
One commissioner said the traffic table showed only two accidents in the study window and asked whether PennDOT reporting was incomplete; Jen and other staff suggested the township send a letter to PennDOT and the state police to flag concerns about underreporting and to request better data. "I think PennDOT needs to be made aware of that," a commissioner said during the discussion. The commission asked that traffic scoping explicitly include the Arbors Glen project so cumulative effects are considered and recommended that PennDOT be given the township's comments during the HOP (highway occupancy permit) review process.
