Council authorizes agreement with UTA for 8000 South bridge replacement betterment

Branden Anderson described a betterment agreement between Midvale City and the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) that permits UDOT's contractor to construct a new bridge (box culvert) over the canal near 80 E 8000 S and complete adjacent roadway betterment work. Anderson said a prior betterment agreement had funded the segment of roadway between the bridge and the Trax lines and that this agreement facilitates construction by the state contractor.
Staff recommended approval and requested a suspension of the rules. The council suspended the rules and approved Resolution No. 2026-R-16 authorizing the mayor to enter into the agreement with UTA. Anderson said the agreement has no financial impact to Midvale; anticipated completion was described as winter 2026–27 or 2027–28 depending on seasonal water constraints in the canal.
