Midvale police report: March drug seizures, 2,359 calls and community takeback event

Chief April Morse told the council the Midvale precinct handled 2,359 total calls in March, producing 780 cases, 34 booking arrests and 471 citations. "The Violent Crimes Unit is working on 199 active cases with 11 new cases added in March," Morse said.
She highlighted coordinated enforcement with Sandy City and a multi-unit effort dubbed Operation Icy Road. "SWAT is assisting the Drug Enforcement Unit with Operation Icy Road, seizing 45 pounds of Meth and thousands of Fentanyl pills," Morse said. She also noted 21 K9 deployments and credited Detective Lopez with locating and arresting a carjacking suspect after a brief foot pursuit. Morse reminded residents of a DEA Drug Takeback event on April 21 at the precinct from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and noted the precinct's newly refurbished little library for children.
The report provides the council with monthly enforcement metrics and public-safety outreach opportunities; council members did not ask for additional action. The department's statistics and the scheduled Takeback event are intended to improve community safety and reduce prescription-drug diversion by giving residents a place to dispose of unused medicines.
