A presenter for the Department for Aging and Disability Services outlined KDAS's FY2026 revised capital estimate of $25.7 million (including $12.1M SGF and $13.6M SIBF) and a FY2027 request of $12.6M SIBF for priority rehab and repair projects. The presentation included South Central Regional Mental Health Hospital projects for the first time in the agency's capital report.
When asked whether the Special Services Building remodel would add beds, the presenter said it would not: the project addresses water-infiltration damage and provides office, training and records storage, not additional patient rooms. Senator Owens raised a discrepancy over the Adair acute care remodel’s bed-count increase (documents list growth from 15 to 45; he recalled 30). The presenter confirmed the Adair remodel was in the Senate budget position while other priority 2 projects and several remodels (OSH Cottonwood, OSH special services, MECO) were not included in current budget proposals.
The committee received the presentation and asked follow-up questions; no vote was taken.
