Council discusses parking management, enforcement and revenue assumptions

During the budget workshop, staff told council that the goal is to manage parking service quality rather than rely on it as a major revenue source. "I've always said from the day I have arrived, I don't want us to be in the parking revenue business. I want us to be in the parking management business," the presenter said.
Council members and staff discussed code amendments to allow for enforcement and fines, potential Saturday/Sunday rate considerations, and employee commuting issues including the idea of an annual pass for island workers. Staff noted the projected $650,000 annual parking revenue has been plugged into the budget but emphasized they will track monthly results and report back at the CSPF meeting and upcoming workshops.
