Board appoints James “Bubba” McCrory as mayor; sets special election dates

The Town of Jackson Board appointed James “Bubba” McCrory as mayor and scheduled special election dates (primary Nov. 3, 2026; general Dec. 12, 2026), while also filling board vacancies and administering the oath of office.
The Town of Jackson Board of Trustees voted to appoint James “Bubba” McCrory to the office of mayor at its July 14, 2025, meeting, and set special election dates for late 2026.
William Free moved to appoint McCrory and David Guillory seconded; the motion carried with no opposition. Town Attorney Haley Major Green administered the oath of office. The board also accepted McCrory’s resignation from his prior board seat before his appointment.
The board then appointed David Guillory as mayor pro tempore and named Debra Allen Norsworthy as member-at-large to fill the vacancy created by McCrory’s promotion. “Mr. James ‘Bubba’ McCrory is appointed as Mayor of the Town of Jackson until an election to elect the mayor is had,” the minutes state.
In a separate motion the board proclaimed a special primary election for Nov. 3, 2026, and a general election for Dec. 12, 2026; qualifying for those races was set for July 29–31, 2026. The board recorded no opposition to the motions. The appointments and proclamation conclude the board’s official action on governance and elections until the qualifying and special-election timeline begins.
