Police present draft ATV/UTV rules and weed-ordinance revisions; council asks attorney to revise language

The La Cygne Police Chief presented two draft policy proposals at the Aug. 7 meeting: a draft ATV/UTV regulation for future consideration and a draft ordinance proposing changes to the city code’s weeds and removal sections.
Chief Zachary Mathies told councilors he had prepared a DRAFT ATV/UTV regulation for review with the goal of returning the item in December for formal consideration. He also presented a DRAFT ordinance to replace sections 7-601 and 7-602 of Chapter VII, Article 6, which address the definition of weeds and removal requirements. Council Members Keith Stoker and David Brenneman expressed concern about clearing vegetation along fence rows; the city attorney requested the draft ordinance be emailed so he could develop language addressing the council’s concerns.
No ordinance vote or formal action occurred at the meeting; council directed staff to circulate drafts and seek legal input before returning the items for future consideration.
