The Wright County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved Resolution 26-48 authorizing a $1,000,000 grant application to the Greater Minnesota Parks and Trails Legacy program for south entrance improvements at Bertram. The application covers upgrades to an unimproved class-5 parking surface, the access road and boat landing, installation of a portable-restroom area, a rental kiosk for kayaks or canoes, and trailhead amenities such as a shelter and updated informational kiosks.
"These improvements have been identified through the master plan...the parking lot and boat landing are all class 5, kind of an unimproved surface," Ross said while outlining the project. He described a proposed rental kiosk with a locker-style system that would allow online booking and hands-off staff operations: "You would go virtually go online, rent your kayak or canoe for two hours...you get a code and then you just bring it back in." Commissioners expressed support for the accessibility focus and moved to approve the resolution; a roll call produced unanimous 'aye' responses and the motion passed.
The resolution authorizes staff to apply for Legacy funding and, if the grant is awarded, to proceed with design and implementation consistent with the master plan. No additional county match or budget appropriation was specified in the presentation.
