Minnetrista honors retiring Fire Chief Greg Peterson after 51 years

Mayor Lisa Whelan opened the special-presentation portion of the July 20 meeting by recognizing the career of Chief Greg Peterson, who began service in 1975 and retired after 51 years. Whelan said the department’s call volume grew from roughly 100 a year to more than 800 and credited Peterson with regional cooperative work and leadership in opening the Mount Fire Hall in 2004.
Greg Peterson thanked the council and community for support. "I just wanna say thank you for your support, over the years," he said. The mayor noted department records cited 15,695 calls and more than 17,000 call-hours during his tenure. The council also welcomed incoming chief Andy Drilling and praised Peterson’s participation in county and state fire associations. No formal action was required; the recognition was ceremonial.
