Aurora staff: state fuel-impact fund will send the city $2 million a year for five years

City transportation staff told the Aurora City Council that a state-administered Fuel Impact Reduction Grant will provide Aurora roughly $2,000,000 per year for five years, a share staff said represents 20% of revenue generated from a nearby fuel-distribution site.
"We are receiving $2,000,000 per year over those 5 years," Carly Camposano, deputy director of transportation and mobility and public works, said during an informational presentation. Camposano said the state created an enterprise fund and is distributing $10,000,000 annually; Aurora's share is being treated as a direct allocation rather than an awarded competitive grant and does not require local matching funds. Camposano told the council the city has received $4,000,000 so far.
The presentation identified the Magellan site at Smith and Chambers as the origin of the revenue stream and said eligible projects are limited to hazardous-materials corridors that carry fuel from that site toward I‑70. Camposano said the program is currently a five-year initiative; staff have not received confirmation in the presentation that the program will be extended after the initial five years.
Council members welcomed the funding as an opportunity to address safety and infrastructure issues on corridors used by hazardous-materials trucks. Staff framed the money as dedicated to local projects, environmental mitigations and to making fuel transport along those corridors safer and more efficient.
