Richard Spottruck, the government sales lead representing Ritchie Bros., briefed the commission on a program intended to help counties rotate dump trucks and other rolling stock. He described an arrangement in which a county purchases multiple new trucks under a program and Ritchie Bros. guarantees a resale floor price the following year, which can stabilize budgeting and reduce long-term depreciation concerns.
"If you purchase 5 to 6 MACs ... we'll guarantee a price to sell them the year after," Spottruck said, explaining that revenue above the guarantee would be split with the seller under an 80/20 arrangement. He walked the board through spec choices (Mack, Kenworth, Peterbilt), warranty options and the logistical choices to store equipment at a regional yard to limit public pickup and shipping burdens.
Commissioners and staff asked about downtime and whether the program would leave the county short of trucks during turnover; Spottruck said orders and sales are scheduled so units do not leave the county without replacements and noted flexibility to scale the program from a single truck up to larger fleets. County staff said they would consult their maintenance supervisor before deciding whether to pursue the program further.
