"In the last 24 hours, we have 5 people in custody on two separate burglaries," the agency official said. He described multi-jurisdictional work that led to arrests in neighboring counties and noted detectives had used creative investigative steps to track suspects.
The sheriff also highlighted recent training: several staff attended advanced homicide-investigation coursework in Louisville, and the department hosted crisis-intervention-team (CIT) training locally. "That was really good training," he said, urging continued investment so the office can maintain investigative capacity. The report noted civilian-facing metrics, including 195 traffic stops and about 3,000 courthouse visits in the month.
Looking ahead, the sheriff described contract and staffing initiatives, including a new flexible municipal contract approach with Montrose to ease coverage burdens. No new formal changes to policy were adopted at the meeting; commissioners directed staff to proceed with routine contract signings and grant paperwork the sheriff requested.
