Council gets green light from USDA for sewer desludging; other infrastructure updates noted

City Clerk Jodi Wade told the council Sept. 18 that USDA had completed its audit of the sewer improvement financials and confirmed the city could proceed with the Sewer Lagoon Desludging Improvement project; the Notice of Award was signed and issued to Hodges Farms and Dredging and work is to be completed by Dec. 31, 2024.
Clerk Wade also reported that a state review of the KDOT CCLIP project was complete at the local level and that the file had been sent to Topeka for audit; any remaining funds discovered by the state would be returned to the city. Public Works Superintendent Dan Nasalroad advised the council an emergency replacement of a flow meter at the water treatment plant had been made necessary and that an electrician was contracted for carbon feeder installation. Nasalroad also reported a Class 2 gas leak at KS Hwy 152 and Maddox Road had been reduced in severity by Panhandle pressure adjustments pending deeper trenching to complete the repair.
The council received these updates as informational items; the USDA action enables the sewer desludging work to proceed under the contract awarded to Hodges Farms and Dredging. The clerk indicated required records for the USDA review and the EPA Lead and Copper Inventory were completed and uploaded.
