Police Chief Zachary Mathies presented the Axon quote and explained that the systems network with existing body cameras and Tasers. The quote was discussed in detail; the meeting record contains two close figures ($34,254 was cited during presentation and the motion recorded the total as $34,250). The motion recorded the funding arrangement as a five-year payment plan with annual installments of $6,850 to begin in 2025 after receipt and installation.
Chief Mathies said Axon offered two Body 4 cameras at no cost for part-time officers and that the vendor provides technical support and cloud storage; he told the council he had reviewed alternatives but concluded Axon provided the most complete program and support. Council Member Mitzner asked the number and field of view; Chief Mathies said three units were needed and that in-car cameras provide front, side and cage views including audio and video.
The council approved the purchase by voice vote, 5-0. The first annual installment will not be due until 2025, according to the chief’s explanation of the vendor’s payment schedule.
