Summary
Police Chief Zachary Mathies reported department activity and asked to use remaining funds from a $25,000 allocation to finish upfitting a new Ford Explorer and make minor repairs to other units; the council approved the request and also voted to offer a Dodge Ram patrol unit to interested departments prior to public surplus sale.

Police Chief Zachary Mathies told the council on Sept. 4 that a Ford Explorer ordered for patrol is upfitted and nearly ready for service; he requested the council authorize use of the remaining portion of a previously approved $25,000 allocation to complete final upfitting and address minor repairs on other patrol units.
Chief Mathies reported 2024 totals for the department including 503 traffic stops, 55 citations and 118 reports. Council Member Thomas Capp motioned to authorize use of the remaining funds to finish upfitting the Explorer and perform minor repairs on other patrol units as defined by Chief Mathies; the motion passed 5-0. The chief also asked about the procedure to surplus a Dodge Ram patrol unit; the council agreed to offer it first to interested police departments and, if unsold, to surplus it through Purple Wave; that motion passed 5-0.
Why it matters: the actions finalize readiness of an additional patrol vehicle and set a path to dispose of an older patrol truck, potentially recouping funds for the city. The council approved use of remaining funds from the existing allocation and directed staff to proceed with surplus procedures.
