Council approves temporary Chestnut Street closure for church back-to-school event

Chelsie Stainbrook, a member of the United Methodist Church board, asked the council to temporarily close Chestnut Street between 4th and 5th Streets on Saturday, Sept. 28 for a Back-to-School family fun day.
Public Works Superintendent Dan Nasalroad told the council he could set barricades and cones on the Friday before the event and pick them up on Monday. Council Member Thomas Capp moved to approve Resolution No. 474 to close and block Chestnut Street between 4th and 5th Streets on Sept. 28; the motion was seconded by Council Member Keith Stoker and passed 5-0.
Why it matters: the approved closure enables a community-organized event and directs city staff to provide traffic control. The motion included specific hours for the closure and staff follow-up to place and remove barricades as proposed.
