Findlay moves forward on downtown park designs, mural and watershed work

City staff reported the downtown park project has reached 60% design and that the contract manager at risk is reviewing plans for cost-saving adjustments and refined cost estimates.
The moderator said fundraising conversations for the downtown recreation area are progressing and an artist has been chosen for a Merchant's mural, with tuck-pointing hoped for in September and artwork done in October to coincide with an unveiling. "The artist has been chosen. We are in the process of fundraising so that the tuck pointing can take place hopefully in September, with the mural, the artwork being done in October," a committee member said.
Staff also described continued work with the Lake Tree River Watershed Partnership on dam sediment cleanup at the old reservoir and said they are discussing options that could be submitted for congressional-designated spending next year. The city discussed the complexity of river maintenance responsibilities across private property, easements and soil-and-water district rules and said they will set a meeting with soil-and-water staff and a county commissioner to explore solutions.
Next steps: staff will report back after the contract-manager review of park designs, continue fundraising for the mural and pursue watershed funding options.
